Left side, front end of the torque tube- the casting that the engine bolts in to. Number you find on an engine is an engine serial number. Just rearwrd of the carb. Tube has the tractor serial number, and will start with D17. Serial numbers are STAMPED- not cast into a part.

Check a parts book after you find the serial number. Won't swear to this, but maybe Series one had band (only) brakes like a WD45, but the series 3 has different setup - band and disc?. Anyway, it has a band and another portion with balls that run in a tapered track- like the F2 combine. Series 3 you need to pull the axles out.

from what i understand they can be...i havent had the pleasure YET but from what i read here sometimes its easier to get bottom pin out if you loosen backing plate...either that or use dynamite
