Grandpa's Folly the D17 that wouldn't

Seems the boys gave Grandpa some heartburn when they passed him with the old pull type plow behind the Cockshutt. Grandma was probably no help, she always thought he traded tractors too often.

Dad said they owned that tractor til it was replaced by a 1965 830 Case with 5-16s and it never was much for plowing. As I remember, the first year with the Case was not much better, but they finally did get the plow to run right. My uncle was a district service guy for them and must have found the right adjustments.

Dad was always partial to the tall Cockshutt with flat platform. I think it was a 30 but don't exactly remember. That was the other issue with the D17, the tranny got hot on the legs when working hard so you had to ride it like a Harley.

Never had green or red on the farm, no red dealers handy and they had some sort of falling out with the green guys. The Allis dealer was probably handiest to us and well respected. We had a pretty good collection of Allis hitch equipment too. The rear mounted sickle bar was an especially good machine.

By the way I just bought a little B but I don't have it yet.
