I had purchased a wd45 some time ago and when I brought it home started it up it looked like the head gasket was leaking antifreeze. I replaced the head gasket and when I started the tractor I could see antifeeze coming out by the valve cover gasket. I proceeded to take off the valve cover and there was antifreeze all over. And I could not figure out where is was coming from until I took the oil line that oils the tappets. It squirted antifreeze when I started the engine. Then I tool the plug out of the oil pan. It was full of antifreeze. Do I have a cracked block or are there other possibilities? Appreciate your help!

pardon the dumb question but did you change oil after you changed head gasket?

There are a couple of possibilities. Cracked block , cracked head and bad cylinder lower seal rings are the most likely. I can't recall if Allis put any freeze plugs on the WD head. They had them under the valve cover of the B, C and CA. If it has them and they fail, you'll lose anti-freeze to the pan.

First you need to have your head pressure tested. The only bad head that I had had a very visible crack by a valve so I skipped pressure testing and got a different head. If the head checks out, I'd pull the cylinders and inspect the o-rings. If the o'rings are perfect you'll need to have the block magnifluxed. I've had cracked blocks at the base of the cylinders and I've had bad cylinder seal o-rings.

Good luck,

A lot of WD's had problems where the head bolt holes were not deep enough so when you torqued the head bolts they bottomed out before they sucked the head down. Try putting a couple of flat washers on each head bolt and then torquing them down. I had this problem and that fixed the problem. This is a very old problem with WD's
