cork gasket on wd45 allis chalmers oil pan

How does one hold the front and back cork gasket in place on a wd45 oil pan. also--the cork gaskets are longer than the u-shaped loop of the oil pan. Should I cut them to size?

If you had gotten your base gasket set from an AGCO dealer, then you would have gotten the clips that you need to hold the end gaskets in place as you install the pan. The clips make it easy to hold the gaskets in place and they are not included with most of the aftermarket base gasket kits.

I have used sewing thread to tie gasket to pan to hold in place on other applications. You can remove thread or leave in place as you wish. It is kind of a pain to tie the thread with gasket goo on your hands though.

Place the cork seals inside a small coffee can or simillar sized cylinder of some sort. Wrap them around on the inside and leave them overnight. this will allow them to take the shape you need.
use permatex or weatherstrip adhesive to glue them to the oil pan. Do not trim the ends. the excess is there to compress the seal into place so it doesn't slip out. Also don't use silicone sealer here , it just acts like a lubricant and the seal will squeeze out and you will have a major leak.

Extremely difficult to install if the engine is in the tractor. If the engine is out, on an engine stand.....real easy. Engine upside down...lay the cork gaskets in place with permatex on both sides....drop the pan over that...put the bolts in...tighten them down. NO- you do not cut them. Everything squeezes into place.

Thanks --The engine is in the Tractor. A person told me there are clips to hold in place but no one can tell me where to find these. Any help with this?

I think you've hit on one of the Allis mysteries. The only way I ever got it done was to put permatex on the pan and lay the gaskets on the permatex. Can't recall trimming the gasket but if it doesn't fit, you don't have much choice.

If you changed the rear seal, trimming is often required for it.
