I have been watching ads for a while looking for a nice old tractor to relive my youth. Some form of middle age crisis I suppose.

Something that would not fill my garage would be a good idea and keep peace with the better half.

I am interested in later models of the B, C and CA. I would love to have a WD like we had on the farm but it seems just too big. The later D models are a bit too complicated and out of my price range for what will mostly be a toy.

I had thought about a small Farmall but cultivision just seems too wierd. No Allis G's either thank you.

Are there any good links to explain the variations of these small tractors over the years?

It looks like the B was made over a long span but I seldom see a 50s model listed. Did it have lift hitch on the later models?

I think I saw some references to a awkward hand brake on early models too.

Did any have a foot and hand clutch like the WD?

I have two beautifully refinished and rebilt 1939 Allis-Chalmers B tractors for sale. They look as if they were just driven off the assembly line. I will provide pictures and further information on request. Tractors are located in Henderson, KY.

There were over 100,000 units of the B made in it's production. They're out there, ya just gotta' find the right folks who have them. I have a 48' B that I use darn near everyday from mowin' the lawn to pullin' stumps, to pullin' a wagon around cleaning up the property. It's a great little tractor, doesn't take up much room in the shed, and all around pretty much endless what you can do around a small farm or a few acres. Engine wieghts are available for it to give it a little extra wieght in the nose to keep it out of the clouds. Some have an adjustable wide front, most have the arched axle like mine does. Hi Mace. I don"t have anywhere near as much experience as the other guys on the forum, but I can share what little I do have. I owned a Ford 9N last year, and it was a great tractor, but I had to get rid of it. Was nice due to it"s short size, and ease (REALLY easy) of finding new parts for it. Any TSC store will have darn near everything for them. A couple months ago I purchased a 1941 Allis B for $900 off E-bay. It runs great, looks OK, has 3 new tires/rims, electric start, a newer 3 pt. conversion (looks pretty nice on there, and is absolutely great to work on and chat about on this forum. I don"t know a lot (much at all really) about these tractors, but with the advice of the people on here I"ve been able to work out the kinks here and there. Very simple tractor but they can surprise you....first time I let the clutch out too fast, even with no attachments loaded up, the front end came up about a foot or so. These little tractors are designed/geared/built for serious torque and to last for a long, long time. I"m sure you"ll really enjoy whatever toy you end up getting. Make sure you update here when you get one.

In my area there were very very few B"s or C"s sold new. They were too small for the farming opperations around here. Therefore they are much harder to find than WC"s and WD"s. They have become somewhat popular for mowers in more recent years. This effects availability and cost. CA"s were a little more popular in the area, but still nothing compared to the W series. All that being considered you have many many more W series tractors in my areat to choose from, as far as both condition and price. I have no experience what so ever with a B or a C. We did have a CA on the farm that I used a lot as a kid. While much lighter weight than the WD and WD45"s, it had a surprising amount of power. It could often pull the same equipment if you could get the traction. Of course the foot brakes and hand clutch were great. I"d recomend the tractor if you can find a good one.

yes. I am from So Ohio and now live in Indiana. Same story, there is a WD in every corner. Throws the whole size/cost thing out of whack.

Always amazing to see a big tractor like a D21 that can't bring any money. Too big for shows and puttering around.

I was looking a newer 4wds for a while. Very handy but I can rent one no more than I would really need it.

I had a 1953 B until a few months ago and my step
dad bought it off me, but it had a lift system,
a nice little tractor, but my choice of an Allis
would be a CA, they got alot of power for their size, and will do alot more than a B.

The only one of the three to have a hand clutch was the CA. The CA came with foot brakes. My 43 C has foot brakes. Foot brakes can be added to C and B. The B, C and CA are quite a bit smaller than the WD - especially the B.

The farmall B's are quite wide - not what you want. A WD is narrower than a Farmall B. The A is smaller like the B Allis.

I have a 1950 B with all foot controls, piston hydraulic pump that works off of the PTO, electric start, 6 volt pos ground system. I pull a 4 foot bush hog behind it and use it to move the haywagon around...loaded or empty. It's a great little tractor that packs alot of power for the size. I painted it and put new rubber on it this year and am awaiting the delivery of the rebuilt mag in the mail...but mine is not for sale

I see many newer B photos with aftermarket lift hitches. Was any of that available from the factory? The rock shaft appears to be supported by the seat frame.

I saw a CA in real bad shape (110% rusty) at a local junk lot, it appeared to have snap coupler setup like a WD and a traction control of some sort.

the B was built from 1938 to 58. C from 40- 50, and CA followed the C from 51 to 58. They all use the same motor, basically. The B is normally a wide front end, the C can be either, but quite a few were narrow front. CA was upgraded to a 4 speed transmission and 4 piston hydraulic pump instead of 2. --- THe B had hand brakes for a couple years. Foot brakes by 1942 or so. You can interchange many parts from the 3 tractors over a 20 year period. The B is very simple. Many have an internal hydraulic pump that puts out 3200 psi, but only about a quart of flow per minute. You can install an aftermarket 3 point hitch and the factory pump will lift it with a small cylinder. Very late B, and some CA had the snap coupler system and lift arms installed. earlier B had pump and very small cylinder just to lift a deck or plow. You can modify anything. You can get a decent B for $1000. or less if you look around, somtimes $600 for a runable, but will need plenty of work. You dont need a 1958 model, the mid 1940s is o.k., just try to get one with hydraulics and electric starter. quite a few have been upgraded to alternator and 12 volt system.--- check e-bay for pictures of whats available, then look local.
