Just got a "C" with really loose steering. Most of the "looseness" seems to be coming from the pedestal. Is there any kind of adjustment in there? Do I need to start looking for a new pedestal?
Thanks, Tom

If the large pedestal shims have already been removed you can add shims under the bevel pinion gear.

The pedestal is adjustable. It is held in place by four bolts. The manual says to drop it from the upper housing and remove shims between the pedestal and the upper housing that it is bolted to. Once you drop it you will find several layers of gasket/shim material. Remove layers until the the pinion gear is properly meshed with the rack. Trial and error is about the only way to measure when you have removed enough shims.
