Have checked gas level in float bowl using sight guage,it is at 7/16" down from top of bowl with carb on tractor. With carb apart float is lower than the 1 3/16" measured setting. Float is at 1 5/16 now. Should I leave float setting as is or adjust up to 1 3/16"? Have had hard starting trouble using hand crank. Carb is the right one for tractor. Thanks,Gary/Md

Thanks for info, will do some more checks. The 1st carb came from a junk yard, right one for B and looked original to tractor it came off. After a good cleaning and several checks I found that the bowl didn't match up to body just right and carb could suck air in at gasket surface near air intake, have a good matching bowl now. Tractor is hand cranking great when hot, governor is snappy. Gary/Md.

Another good way to test your float is to hold it with pliers and put it in a pan of warm water. It will build pressure inside and air bubbles will spew out where the hole is in the float. You can replace it or if you are handy a soldering then fix it but be sure to file off excess solder then too. Make sure there are no shiny spots on side of float and bowl where the float could have been dragging in the bowl also. Bend the float so it doesn't drag if so.

Always check when rebuilding your carb to inspect and check the floats. Sometimes when floats get old, they'll start to take on fuel. When they do that, they start to sink. To test them, gently shake them back n' forth and listen for any fuel sloshing inside. If you hear fuel, time to renew the floats, then reset the float setting... HTH

If you've got 7/16" in the bowl, you should be good. When I hand crank mine cold, I close the choke, crank once with ignition off, open choke, turn ignition on, open throttle one notch and crank again, she fires up...once warm, it almost starts too easy..that is before I had these probs I've been working thru lately.
