My Allis B with FMJ Magneto will run fine for a couple of hours, then start missing. If I clean the spark plugs, then it's fine again. It doesn't smoke, or use oil, yet it appears that the plugs keep partially fouling...
Any Ideas??

Could try and see if a hotter plug helps.

Mag coil is probably getting weak. As it runs the coil gets hot and stops putting out a good blue spark and then it fouls the plugs. When it does that pull one plug wire and check the spark to see if its a good blue spark or if its a bad yellow spark. Almost bet you will find a yellow spark which will run it but not very well

Also, on your "J" model mag, Fairbanks used a tar-taped style coil in the eariler model "J" series mags. These coils tend to leak as they get older and been in service for many years. Coils do change their intensity as they get hotter under working conditions, and the older tar-taped coils would ground themselves to the inside of the mag housing and either shut the engine down, or cause the engine to develop a miss. Eventually the coil fails. We have all Fairbanks mag parts in stock since we rebuild, service, and repair all mags. F/M's are our specialty. We were just talking about spark plugs a few posts up. The Autolite 295 plugs work nice as well as the NGK B4 & B6S equivalents. If you can't find them locally, we have em' in stock. Steve@B&B

Can't tell you that its been a few years since I have had one of those. An Allis B was the first tractor engine I ever rebuilt and that was when I was 18 and thats been a few decades ago.

Old...seems you still remeber an aweful lot about B"s for having worked on one so long ago. Out of curiosity, what tractors have you, or do you, owned? I know you"ve given me great advice when I owned a Ford 9N last year. (great tractor, but I"m enjoying the heck out of this AC B...those lift pin leaks just got the best of me)

Well at this time I have 5 olivers 2 farmalls 2 allises, 2 JDs, 2 MHs, 3 fords, a galion road grader, a cat 950 loader and a bob cat. I've sold some where are 10 differant ones in the last few years. Most of these that I have I've either done a lot of work on or got them in nonrunning condition. Oldest I have is a JD-B which is a 1935 on steel and I know its history all the way back to 1940. The newest I have is a 1967.

Well at this time only a few of them are keepers. I have a Farmall H, an Oliver 77, A MH 101SR and an 8N for sale. I also keep 5 tractors a friend owns running for him.
