Comparison of IH M and AC WD-45

We are looking at buying a tractor, and have a choice between an IH M and an AC WD-45. Can anyone give me some comparison information on these 2 tractors? Please send the response to my email address.

For no more than your going to do with it I'd say a 'N' type Ford would be more fitting. HOWEVER anyone who keeps a M away from the scrap metal guys is fine by me.

Dead pull favors the M,but the 45 will out work it
any day! The oil clutch is great,and live hyd and
p.t.o. is something sorely lacking on the m. The
hyd system on the 45 is VERY HIGH PRESSURE so chose your hyd cyls valves hoses or whatever VERY
CAREFULLY!! Had a 45 years ago,but now my only
A.C. tractor is a H.D.21-P Bud DeLong.

Both are good tractors, you need to make your decision based upon your needs. Why not buy both of them!!!!

Did you ask this question on the Farmall board also, to get the other view? I've used both, and both were the workhorses of the farming world for generations. It may depend on your application. The M, with its bigger tires is a monster, it can't be beat for brute pulling and traction. Its probably a little more bullet proof than the WD-45, although both are very good. If you want to run machinery with the PTO, you want the WD-45. Its hand clutch gives you live pto, which is a convenience that borders on absloute necessity. It allows you to stop the tractor and keep the machine running.

Ok, I may be a little biased to orange, but, the Nebraska tests say the 45 was a little more fuel efficient and was more powerful. If you plan on plowing, there was no comparision between the A-C traction booster system and IH. Also, the 45 has a live pto, the M doesn't. With a little maintainence, its pretty hard to wear out a 45. Not that I'm knocking the M, the 45 is newer and more advanced. Besides, if storage is at a premium, the 45 takes up a little less space. Ken, I thought you would get more posts but it's still early. I have a 53 WD that has many WD45 features. I would think that your choice would depend on usage, but I can tell you I find my tractor does everything I need. My WD is to clear my driveway in winter, and general pasture maintenance for 6 horses, (mowing, light tilling, moving brush, and removing horse manure) and for me to have some fun with. The hand clutch is great! Parts (the few I've needed) are easy to find. The one thing you should look at is the 3pt or SNAP coupler decision. Does the M have a 2 point? Last thing is I have found I like being orange and not part of the big crowd of Reds and Greenes. Good luck. Lonny

no one talked about which is more creature comfortable. Sitting for 6 hours like a contortionist could be a little uncomfortable.
Being orange I will give one vote for comfort on the M, the rest goes orange.
