Helo: I have purchased a allis B model with steel wheels on the rear and really like the way it looks and would like to put bands on them over the lugs. Question is are the bands home made or can they be purchased? Any ideas out there. I have also seen them with tire tread bolted on to the bands??? any help would be appreciated.

I have a 1927 farmall that I "made" bands for. Measured the diameter over the lugs. Had the steel shop roll rings from steel I bought there. I used 4"x1/8" strip. Had them made about 1/2" larger than the diameter I measured. Cut to size on the wheel. Welded 1" angle on the ends (inside) and used 1/2" bolts to cinch it. Then cut 3/4" pipe (length of lug height) and fit between wheel and band. Used 1/2" bolts through band, pipe ID and wheel. Then cut the center from old tractor tire. Bolted it on with large carriage bolts with large flat washers. Makes it easy to remove. Steel & rolling was $200 (front and rear) 15 years ago.

Lessons learned - use 1/4' or thicker steel for band. Use plenty of bolts & pipe. Still won't take a lot of torque, but looks good in a parade. Rides smoother too!

That was somewhat like I had in mind, thought there may have been someone out there who made them, I had also thought about taking the lugs off and bolting a tire tread to the steel rim, what do U think? May make it set to low in the rear?? If you happen to find any pictures please e-mail.
