Pretty safe up here near Fort Worth. Waiting to here from some relatives trying to get out of Freeport. Can't get through to their cell phone. Know quite a few people in Victoria also, One's an Allis Chalmers person.

The current projection is between tropical storm and cat 1 winds when it comes through here. We'll be riding it out but it may be rough. We're inland quite a ways (150 miles). Eye is projected 20 to 40 miles from us at closest approach (don't have much faith in this projection).

Recent update says moving further north between Galveston and Port Arthur. Austin area will miss the brunt.

If Rita doesn't weaken in the Gulf and hits the coast as a cat IV, now they say it will still have cat III winds when it hits us. Not much of this area is built to handle cat I because we are so far inland. I'm on a bluff looking over the San Gabrial River about 150 ft away from a 125 foot shear drop. Flooding won't be a factor but those winds. We've got all of those New Orleans refugees in Houston and Austin already. Where will all these people go?
