My 1956 CA has been converted to a 12V charging system with and Alternator + voltage regulator. Does anyone know if there was a standard of the shelf conversion? I don't have a wiring diagram and the charging system is not working.

there was never a factory "of the shelf" update. there are a few aftermarket guys that take a GM DELCO alternator, make a bracket and wiring harness and sell for an upgrade. Most of these have hit the market in the last 5 years or so. There are basically two types of alternators. Is you voltge regulator internal or external box. IF it is internal then you will probably have a big lug which is + to the amp meter. There would then be 2 to 4 spade terminals on the side or back of the alternator, pissibly lettered R and F, or 1 and 2. --- 2 is always hot and can connect to the ampmeter also. 1 is hot when the key is on and no power when key is off (or toggle switch). this line normally has a resistor or light bulb in series to the switch to drop voltage slightly in this "signal line". ----- if you have an external voltage regulator then i connects somewaht like a generator and reg. ther volt reg will have 3 or 4 terminals and you connect B-batter, F- field or ground, and G to the armatue on the alternator. I have a couple drawings of a internal reg system for a DELCO if you need it. [email protected] ---does the alternator say DELCO, DENSO, Motorcraft, etc??
