I am beginning to design and build my own version of the Henry TS-1000 loader for my D-17 tractor. I have a manual so that helps. Got a couple of questions however.1). How wide are the loader arms on a standard heavy duty loader? Also, what is the typical thickness of metal used in making these arms. Right now, I am penciling in 1/4 inch wall thickness. Should I go heavier? 2). I have designed the bucket to be 60 in with 1/4 inch wall thickness except for the areas which need extra support such as the bottom and leading edge. Does this sound good? 3). The TS-1000 had a single heavy duty angle iron bar spanning one side of the tractor to the other side. Uprights form rectangular pockets for the loader frame. These tie into the axle tubes. Tiny wing brackets extend from the uprights to pick up the two bolt holes on the axle reduction housing. Right now, this angle is 1/2 inch thick and made from 4x5 angle. The uprights are made from two slabs of 1/2 inch steel with a spacer made from 3/4 inch thick steel that supports a U bolt around the axle. A 1 1/2 inch pin attaches the subframe of the loader to this bracket at both the left side and right side of the tractor directly under the ears of the axle tubes. So far, most of this has been lifted from the Henry manual. But it does not support brackettry to hang the lower swing arms for a three point hitch. I am currently working on adding these brackets to the backside of this structure and also to add a heavy duty bracket to support a back hoe. Something like a henry mark IV. Still working on this. The hydraulics are being run off a 23 GPM Muncie pump driven off the main crankshaft in the front of the tractor. The two uprights are heavy duty and may have a tubular cross member. These pillars and its cross member will be where I store my hydraulic oil. Ideally, the sump hose picks up from one pillar and hot, spent oil is returned to the other pillar. What do you tractor engineers think about this idea so far?
