By the way when I do post the pictures there will be one of before, during and after I get it done. Just pulled it out of the shop today to sit in the sun to sort of bake the paint. Wife said we had to take pictures before I put the decals on so they will be posted when we get the film roll used.

Ads are my best source of history but I've never seen an ad for speed patrol.

I loked at tractor pictures, vintage photos and the ads and still no good picture of a WC. Some show a little better then others but I guess I'll just end up useing my best guess. I figure the WC decal will be about half way up on the side of the Rad cover. And a lot of the littler one will be easy to figure out or at least close enough.

I think you are right on the WC - maybe a little higher than center. The Allis Chalmers decal is on the hood if it is styled and the frame if it is unstyled. At least that's the way shown in ads. I expect the Speed Patrol would be the same as the WC but I've no proof at all.

Hate to throw a monkey wrench into the works, but I don't believe the WC ever had a factory decal depicting the model. I know that they are in kits now, but I don't believe they are appropriate. Didn't late model C tractors have them, along with the WD?

Now that you mention it, I think you are right. I checked all of my ads (have 166 Allis ads) and couldn't find a WC decal on either styled or unstyled. I checked C, B, RC and even CA and couldn't find a model decal. I couldn't find a WD ad with WD on the tractor. The first solid evidence of the model decal is on the WD-45 and WD-45 diesel. And of course the D series.

So they may not have had this decal. I like the model decals and I have them on everything (have 7 Allis tractors). So I guess it is a personal preference unless it has to be exact. If exact is what you need, I guess you leave them off of everything prior to WD-45.

Op manuals for the WD shows the decal, CA also had them. Didn't the CA come out a couple years after the WD, so late C tractors (since '48?) have the decal?

Well, the manual may have a publishing date after the release of the WD-45 tractor and it was updated when model decals became fashionable.

I like to use the ads because they were Allis's statement of what they were selling. I found no model decals on tractors in their advertisements prior to the WD-45. All WD-45's had decals. Some of the ads for the D-14 and D-17 Series I and Series II are also shown without model decals. All Series III and IV D-17 tractors and D-15 show with model decals. I have one 1960 ad that has about 100 D-17 tractors sitting in a field (all different versions). You can't see the area where a D-17 decal would go on all of them. But on those you can see, none of them have the decal for D-17!

Maybe Allis advertisements are not a good source of information. In 1956, we owned a WD and it had a decal - we didn't put it on the tractor but it was second hand when we bought it. We also had two WC tractors with no model decal.

You are correct. The CA was introduced in 1950. The WD was introduced in 1948.

Me either and since it didn't have any decals on it when I got it that makes it that much harder to figure out
