Flip starter ring on D14?

Does anyone know if the starter ring can be turned over on a D14? I have done this before on automotive applications. There are a few worn teeth where the engine stops in the same place most of the time. Thanks for any input.

According to the manual, the teeth are beveled on one side. The beveled portion is to go toward the rear of the tractor (away from engine). This bevel on the teeth is necessary to permit the starter to engage in any position of the flywheel. I would think you could turn it around but you would need to grind the bevel on every tooth. Seems like a pretty big job. These teeth do get banged up a little from starting a tractor for 40 to 50 years. However, the damage usually doesn't affect operation in the least.

It was a replaceable item, but would it help if you removed the existing one, rotated it a few inches, and replaced it? Dad used to heat the ring in the kitchen oven, then rush outside to install it before it shrunk too much.

I will most likely rotate the ring a little on the flywheel. The other possibility would be to mount the flywheel in a different spot but I assume that it will only bolt on in one position if it was balanced with the crank.
