I have a wd allis and it pulls good and starts good,but it flutters while running with no load.Could point setting be my problem,and if so what should I set the gap.I rebuilt the carb,and I have adjusted to where it runs best,but still have the same problem.It is a 1950 model with a distributor

You might check your intake manafold gaskets and/or your carborator mounting flange gasket. Mine did the same thing for years. New mainfold gaskets fixed it. Hope this helps, Gordon

CHECK THE POINT GAP ON THE HIGH POINT OF THE CAM. THE GAP SHOULD BE .020 WITH A VERY LIGHT DRAG. YOU SHOULD HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE ON THE CAM IN THE DISTRIBUTOR. ALSO TRY MOVING THE SHAFT IN THE DISTRIBUTOR FROM SIDE TO SIDE. IF YOU NOTICE VERY MUCH FREE PLAY, YOU HAVE A WORN DISTRIBUTOR BUSHING WHICH WOULD CAUSE YOUR SYMPTOMS.

Jack, I'm having the same problem on my '49 WD. It started after I had it overhauled. I'm in the process of a tuneup and carb rebuild. If that doesn't work, I'm going to look closely at the distributor, especially the advance mechanism. Sorry I don't have an answer for you yet, but when I do, I'll post it here.
