Mark, 1) Change battery 2) If you have a battery powered coil ignition, you can EITHER use the existing 6 volt coil but add a series voltage dropping (12 to 6) ballast resistor in the circuit from the ignition switch to the coils high input (NOT to distributor) terminal. It should be near the same resistance of the coils primary (as measured between its lil + and - terminals) which is usualy in the 1.5 to 1.85 ohms range and around 25 to 30 watts rated ORRRRR RRR use a new full 12 volt rated coil (i.e. no ballast required). 3) If its a Magneto Ignition no change is required as its not connected to the battery. 4) If you use a Generator you can get a new or used 12 volt unit (or have yours converted to 12 volts by a shop) and a 12 volt Voltage Regulator. Note, I have successfully used 6 volt Generators and just changed the VR to a 12 volt and they worked fine, but Im not saying thats the best or proper engineering way to handle this !!! 5) If you go with an alternator, many are for Negative Ground you know, so if youre at Positive ground now, you would have to reverse the battery (make it Neg ground) and any ammeter leads so it dont read bass ackwards and wire the coil for Negative ground. 6) Change any light bulbs to 12 volt. 7) In the event you had an electric starter solenoid instead of a mechanical push starter switch, it would have to be changed to a 12 volt solenoid.
