WD45 Draft Control

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the lift from bottoming out on a WD45 when pulling bushhog. My lift does not hold at a given point anywhere but all the way down. Is this caused by a faulty pump or should I have spacers on my cylinders?

fellas, Gordon is right.
If the pump will lift the implement, it is functioning just right. Do as he says in his comments and if that doesn't do it, you may have a hold valve problem. Nine times out of ten, it is because it is in the draft position. If you dont have an owner's manual-get one, I have worked with these tractors all my farming life and still cant remember the full procedure of going from draft to hold. Hudson

Terry: It sounds like your hold position valve on top of the pump may be locked in the traction boost position. Look at the valve on top of the pump that the small rod is attached to and see if the screw that locks the two plates together is screwed into the valve body locking the shaft in the traction boost position. If it is, then the check ball in the valve is being held off of its seat and you will not have any hold or neutral position in the lever. Line the two plate up and screw the locking screw out of the body of the valve and into the plate that the small rod is attached to to lock the plates together. When you move the control lever you should hear a click somewhere in the middle of the lever travel. That will be where you will find the hold for the lift arms or remote ram. It is very easy to do and cheaper than check chains. Good luck.

I have the same problem on my WD45. I rebuilt the pump, use 30W oil in the hydraulics and still have the problem. Last night I used a length of chain fastened to each lift arm and to my toplink to hold the bushhog at the correct height. It works fine and eliminates alot of stress from me. The idea came from CT Farm&Country's sway control kit they sell for $20. I'm cheap and built my own aout of spare parts.
