I just wanted to thank everyone again for the help with this (new to me) AC B. I got it to start up just fine, got a non-pressurized radiator cap, and have had it up and down the road and around the lot a few times to check it out. Runs great, just need to lubricate everything REALLY well. Can I use regular oil in this (crankcase, trans.) or is the "modern" oil going to cause lots of leaks? Thanks again for the help!!

newer motor oils are detergent and made to clean out the engines. the theory is if it has not had detergent oil in it for 60 years, and you change now, the crud will break up and start to come out. i think this is good, just run 10 hours, change the oil, run 10 hours, change again. see how that does. if the guy prior to you used 10w 30, then you are all set to go.---- the transmission originally used 20 wt motor oil. 8 quarts will work since the hydraulics are very simple and basic. a better quality oil is hytrans, or universal hydraulic transmission fluid. it is better anti foam and high pressure for pump use than motor oil. but agin, the mtor oil will work as it did 50 years ago.-- go to Wal Mart or farm store and look at the universal fluid- good stuff.

My book states that the transfer case with the hydraulic hookup will only hold 7 qt. With out 6 qt. I find it easy to tell if you have enough if you take the plug out and when it"s full it will just be at the threads. Put the plug in and run the hydraulic pump up & down a few times. Then check again. If it needs any top it off to the threads again. I"ve done this a few times because of the woodriff key in the pto. If it needs replacement all of it comes out and has to be replaced. Big job for a 45 cent key. Done it so many times I can get it done under 30 min.
