Final drive lubrication on B

How do I check the final drives oil level? Also, where do I fill them up at? I was told on here they each take 1.5 pints of 20W. Where do I drain them to change the oil that is in there? Thanks.
Same question applies to the transmission. There"s a square bolt that says next to it "oil level" or something similar. Is this where I fill it? Also, is the drain plug a hex bolt right on the bottom of the transmission? Thanks again.

the final drives are inside the rear wheel areas. you must take out a dozen little 5/16 bolts and pull the sheet metal pan off. clean out all the crud and the old cork gasket. make new gaskets from material you get at Auto Zone. i prefer the paper material, not the cork. put a quart of 80-90 gear lube in the 3/8 pipe plug hole in each pan after reassembly.--- the transmission holds 8 quarts of oil. there are 3 different pipe plugs on teh bottom under the transmission, differential, and pto housing. draoin all 3. fill at the 1 inch plug by your left foom. 20wt was the 65 year old oil. it is o.k., but new spec is universal hydraulic transmission fluid. i had 1 old C years back that i used 10w30 in the motor, and also in the transmission. works o.k., but the pump may have a little airation with using motor oil.--- make sure you use a FRAM 159C motor oil filter or similar, do not use the WIX or other paper type filter, must be the stuffed cotton design. look close at it.

That square top plug on the side of the tranny is where you fill with 20W non-detergent oil. You should find a plug on the inner side of each final drive pan, fill it till it runs out with gear oil, not motor oil. My B book says 140 in summer and 90 in winter. I don't know how anyone could change it without dropping the pan.
