This would be where the muffler would come through. I understand that the original muffler was made by Nelson,now owned by Fleetguard.My question is was the original muffler oval?

I have to agree that this is not a factory cut hole. All WD's and WD45's had round mufflers. AC did not use oval mufflers until sometime in the 60's. The early D series tractors also had round mufflers. It's no trick at all to cut any shape hole you want in sheet metal and someone has done that to the tractors you are talking about here.

Nope, the WD/WD45 muffler holes were always round. Someone probably used a D17 muffler.

So did they always cut/stamp out oval holes in the hood also? Im positive the hole is factory.

I have never seen a WD or a WD forty five with a oval hole in the hood.

All of the original dealers books I have for the WD or WD45 only show a round muffler.

I have a 49 WD with an oval hole in hood. The tractor was painted red by someone and then left out in a field for about 30 years. Very faded now. Still runs very strong.

i have a b with a oval hole in it. easist way to remove the under hood muffler. your hoods probably came off of a wc, that had a oval muffler under the hood, and was installed on a wd. definetely not factory. BOB

Styled WCs did have an oval muffler but it was entirely under the hood. Only the round pipe extended through a small round hole in the hood.
