I am going to replace brakes on my WD. I have read all about it in my manual and on the internet, especially about the difficulty in removing the pin on the bottom. What I don't understand is the part in the book about accessing the pin through the lower transmission cover. What the heck is that? All I have been able to find is a 2 inch hole (approximately) underneath the brake assembly. I must be overlooking something obvious but darned if I know what it is.

I just replaced the WD 45 brakes on my brothers 1954 Allis Chamlers, this past winter2005.

It took me One week to remove the bottom 3/4" brake pins. I made a custom puller and I had to use heat. I had to drill and tap 3/8" fine thread hole in end of pin and use grade 8 bolt, with two 1/2" fine all-thread rods, with 1"x1" bar stock, with nuts. Had new pins made and reused all other orginal parts, with new shoes.

You can contact me for details and phone number.

The brake lower pins are not under the tranny. They are under the axle housings. There is an open acces hole there. They are right under the top brake plate covers. IF!! the pins are loose, once you remove the top pins and springs the bottom pins will slide out. Good luck with that. As they are probably frozen in there you need to read up on past posts of the struggle and methods to loosen them. My WD was new from the factory and we always put anti-seize on the pins so they alwyas slide right out. Most do not. The other AC board has a lot of old files about methods folks have used to get them out.

The brakes are a waysfrom the lower transmission cover, don't know what they mean. You have found the pin. Are yours stuck bad?

I haen"t found any way to access the pin. I can see it from below (2 inch hole) but cannot get to either end of it.
