D-14 price

looked at a D-14 that had been completely rebuilt, new clutch, new brakes new seals and new tires all the way around. Sheet metal is in good shape and the lights and all work. 3 point on the back with a draw bar. Guy wants 4K for it. Is that a fair price or is he a little high?

He had been using it this summer for raking hay. This guy buys AC tractors at auctions, does some work on them and sells them at his house. He said he wasn't going to sell it but he has 2 other bigger tractors and really doesn't need this one.

I would be getting it for running square baler. Is that enough tractor do this with? 43 HP?

one not far from me nearly as you described with a 2 bottom plow been for sale for a month or so for 2500 and the guy said people still try to talk him down on price

Most people seem to think that regardless what you ask for something, you'll take less. $2500 would seem to me to be a fair price for a D-14 in good condition. If the tractor has transmission problems I'd think $2500 was high though.

43 is engine hp for a D-14, you don't have near that much at the pto or drawbar. $4000 is high for a user D-14, I'd expect fully restored; including engine, transmission and new tires for that price. I think you can run most small square balers with a D-14 as long as you take your time.

Price might be a little high. If the engine is rebuilt as well as the stuff you mention and it has good oil pressure when hot, the price isn't far off in value. But he will own it quite a while before he finds a buyer at that price unless it is also in show condition. $2000 to $3000 is more the range. I bought my D-14 for $2200. Everything is just like new but I did need to do cleaning and painting. I have used mine on my Case 200 square baler for the last four years. It is just about perfect for the application. I used an Oliver 77 before I got the D-14. The D-14 was a big step up in ease of use, controls and maneuverability. I have a D-17 diesel which I would never consider for the job. It is just too big for getting around through gates and the like.

I think, if it is new paint plus totally rebuilt, $3500 would be fair but still a little high.

unless you need the small size of the 14--here in mid mo--you can buy a 17 for less money--i have recently seen older models series 1 bring $2200 and newer real nice seriesIV bring $4500. here a 14 will easily bring $3000-3500 if its in good shape

What type of square blaer? What type of terrain? Will you hook a wagon behind it? I would personally go with a D17 for a square baler, or atleast a D15. We had a D17 series IV diesel that was a perfect match for our 311 NH with a wagon on the back and terrain with some hills, not many though. The D14 could probably do it if you aren't going to bail too much, we were bailing about 200 acres of bluegrass, even more some years (leased farm).

Well fella's thanks for all the replies. Ya'll have been most helpful. I guess it pays off to ask the experts about tractors here. I found a really nice little D14, all restored, not sure about engine but in really nice shape for $2700. I think I am going to buy it this weekend.

One other question. On the lift arms in the rear. (this one has a "3 PT" that comes with it), will the hydraulics keep your implement in the middle or is it either all the way up or all the way down?

As far as baling goes, I will only be doing about 30 acres maybe less. Thanks for all of the replies!
