I need advice for an allis chalmers 190 with hydraulics problems. The remotes only work when the tractor first starts up. Once the oil reaches normal operating temperature, none of the remotes work at all. Even when the oil is cool the remotes only work when the tractor is idling. Anything above idle and I have to barely pull on the lever to get any results. I've had the pump tested and it's operating within tolerances. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad pump. Ours looses hydraulic power when it warms up but I know for a fact it is the pump.

Layne,
The first 190s had some problems with air bubbles in the hyd oil. I know I installed a screen on the oil sump where the oil returned to help break up the bubbles. Later an accumulater was installed behind the left frame toward the rear of the engine. If the hoses on this are not good or not clamped tight, it will allow air to be sucked into the hyd oil and will cause a chatter in the pump gears and they will eventually quit pumping.

When the pump was tested was it run long enough to get hot? Sounds like a bad pump to me. Pressure when cold, none when hot. Dad had a pump go bad on his 190, turned out one of the gears was cracked and would slip on the shaft when it go hot. pumped ok cold.

How did you have the pump tested, on the tractor? Sounds like the oil level is low.

Could be too hight too couldn't it? IF it was too high, then it would overheat and overheated hydraulics won't work right. Make sure you are not transferring fluid between compartments, that could be a bad sign if you are. Good luck

Too high a leval would not make it heat up. It would actually normally do the opposite. It could however cause it to leak and throw oil out and possibly entrap more air in the fluid.
