Are these 190's with the usual transmission problems, such as jumping out of gear or only moving in reverse and first gear worth buying at some price? Also, what's going on with them and can they be fixed at a resonable price?

I just purchased a D19 which shares the same rearend with the 190 and 190xt they just put a bigger axle in the 190xt. I also have the problem of gears jumping out. I found that the gears look perfect and they are not worn. I did however replace some of the springs on the detent balls and found it helps. I've also been told the the forks get worn and can contribute to the problem. How true this is I don't know but will soon find out. I bought this tractor not running for $500 and let me tell you I thought I got a deal but it has turned into a money pit.

In my opinion any old tractor is worth fixing if the price is right and the parts are avalible. The 190s had a problem with the detents not being enough to allow the collars to engage as much as the 200 and 7000 did. It worked fine as long as it was not grinded into gear much. They can be fixed. It would require a split at the transmission and also pulling out the guts of the rear end (In most cases). If the transmission is only working in 1st and reverse, sounds like a lot of collars and gears, or maybe the input shaft is stripped? Not sure about the 190s tranny design, but it would seem like if 2,3,4th all went bad at once, then it would probably be something other than the gears being worn down from grinding into gear. It can be fixed and is worth it if you do the work yourself and can find the parts. I believe all the parts are avalible from agco still, so give them a call, you will be a little stickershocked at first. Also, you will need to replace the seals and gaskets while apart. Hope this helps.
