I"ve located a WD 45 with a wide front end and decent rear tires, the rest of the tractor seems to be ok other than there is no can over the muffler. I have a WD that i just rebuilt the engine in. Would it be easier to put the WFE and the wider rear tires on my tractor, or take my engine and put it in the 45? Is there any difference in the trannys or rear ends in the 45? Thanks for you help!

Thanks for all the input! I haven"t looked the tractor over real close but i"m guessing it"s stuck due to the no can on the muffler problem. If the motor is fixable I would like to rebuild it and have both tractors running..when money allows however. Thanks again for all your help!!

I'm gonna go against the flow here and say swap engines. If it doesn't have power steering, you can have the engine out in an hour or less. Figure 2 or 3 hours to get both engines out and the fresh one back in. You will probably never notice the power difference from the 2 motors, the 45 has a better tranny and the better front end and rubber. Then you can part out 45 block, or build it and sell it. Or...what any good collector would do. Fix the 45 and have 2:)

It would be much easier to switch the front end and tires. You could do that in a few hours. I assume that when you say the WD45 doen't have a can over the muffler, you mean that it's been sitting outside like that for some time. If that is the case then the engine is going to need some attention. It may need nothing more than an oil change and the plugs cleaned, or it may be stuck and have serious rust inside. Take the stuff you want and put it on your WD. If you have the time check into the engine of the WD45. If it turns out to be good and/or you want to put the time and money into making it good, then at some point in the future you can swap the tires and front end back to the WD45.

Putting the wide front end on is no trouble. I did it in under 2 hours. Switching the tires, are you talking of switching rims as well? Switching the engine is a job and a half.

Nice problem to have. Stock WD45 engine has more power than WD, but WD can be built up to provide about the same- depends what you used on yours. Stock trannies are different, although speeds are similar, but late WD had the 45 tranny with angle (not straight) cut gears and curved shifter. WD tranny transition was at serial number 127008. I think switching parts would be about a horse apiece.
