We are buying implements and not for sure what size for our WD. Can we use a 2 or 3 bottom plow and if a 8 foot disk be to big to use? Our WD is a 1951 with a wide front.Please respond ASAP. Thanks

Hope it is not too late to chime in here. I have a 48 WD and I bought an 8' disk with hydraulics. It has two wheels that are raised and lowered by the rear hydraulics on the tractor. I have a very hilly farm and I have never wanted for power when working this disk. This disk hooks only to the towbar and my hydraulics. I do not have to lift it with the arms so weight to lift is not a problem. Hope this helps.

A WD will pull two plows anywhere! It might not be up to three in some soil conditions and I absolutely defy anyone to try to pull three plows in some of the soil I have - red clay deposited by the last glacier, and by the feel of the air this year I can feel another glacier coming on.

Ginny, The type of soil you're working will make a big difference on what size your tractor will pull. We have alot of clay here in the hills of NW MO,which pulls harder than "better" soil. I have a D-15 which is 38hp? and pull a 3pt 2-16 plow. It would pull a 3-14, but the old girl will be 45 years old next year. My opinion would be to buy a 2 bottom plow. I hope this helps.

The WD will handle both the three bottom plow and eight foot disc. If you can get snap coupler implements, they are nice to use with the WD.

There is a lot of soil in which a stock WD won"t handle a 3 bottom plow, and an 8 foot disk maybe too big a load if you try and cut very deep. The snap coupler equipment will work a lot better than with a 3 point converson also, but still a 3x14" snap coupler plow is too much if you"ve got much clay. Now you can boost the stock horsepower of the tractor if you want and then it shouldn"t be a problem. You"ll need to get at least 30 hp to the drawbar.

I have a 1951 WD that belonged to my grandfather. He farmed for forty years with a three bottom plow and an eight foot disc. I also have the plow and disc and use them every spring and fall. The WD pulls them without a problem.

Well yes it may but, is it over taxing the tractor?? Will it work in all conditions?? See where I'm going with this?? Also is it a single or tantem disc. I have a 6 foot disc that is places make the tractor I use work to hard and it has more HP then a WD. Most of the time its better to go a little small then to go over big.

I would go with a 2 bottom. Not sure about the disc 8 foot might be ok but it also maybe a litte big for it.
