How would a WD tractor with serial number: WD141526 be classified? A 1953 model WD or a 1953 model WD45? Also, what does the "PA" stand for at the end of engine serial number WD352588PA?

The real difference between a WD and a WD45 is the engine. Does it have a rectangular plate on the right side of the block (WD) or is it all cast (WD45)?

my info says a 54 wd. should have a curved shifter.
the last wd produced was sn # 160384 in 54
first wd45 was sn # 160385.

To all that replied thanks for the information it was very helpful. Now the whole problem is that it does have a curved shifter and also has a large plate on the right side. Right behind the oil filter and the distributor there is like 8-10 bolts i think. Also when the tractor was new the front rims were painted the same way as the rear. My father new the farmer that had it since day 1. And as far as he knew that is how the farmer bought it. Since it was bought Aug 1 1953 the speculation is that it was a hybrid. We have the owners manuel and the outside says WD 45 but the inside reads WD. So that left me with the question. And thanks again for the help!

You have a late '53 WD. The WD had the plate on the engine, late 53 had the curved shifter, your serial number identifies it as a WD. Purchase date is not the same as production date. If the engine has a plate on the right side- it is a WD, not a WD45.

Thanks JMS/MN. That helps. A reply before said about the plate. Then one said about the shifter. So with your input to back those replies it must be a late 53 WD. THANKS! This goes out to everyone that reads this, Thanks for your help and replying so quickly. When i first got the tractor there was so many spectulations. So that clears that up. So now when i take it to a show in 3 weeks i can tell the speculaters the real story. But still 1 question, what does PA stand for in the engine code?

To quote the manual, "High compression engines are equipped to burn gasoline only. For average loads use 60 octane gasoline or higher. For continued heavy loads use 70 octane gasoline or higher. These engines are designated by the letters PA following the engine serial number, (Example WD110650 PA)." Allis chalmers also had a low, or "standard", compression engine that was equipped to burn distillate, tractor fuel or low octane gasoline. Those engines had a "KA" following the serial number.

That is wrong. No. 141526 would be a 1953 WD. Last WD was 146606, first WD45 146607.

I agree- there were no WD tractors in 1954- the WD45 started with #146607, 1953. Every book I've seen has the same start number.
