Hello, I am Nick and I am from California's Central Valley. My father and I restored a 1957 Allis D14 (Gas, WF, Snap Coupler) and we would like to know about how much weight the tractor could lift up with its' 3-point setup. We have a 96" Rears (brand) flail mower, that weighs about 2000 pounds, and we are courious to see what would happen. Any help would be appreciated.

I ran some quick calculations on the maximum lift diectly under the lift arms and concluded it to be over 3000#. So theoretically, it could lift 2000#. However, your mower is a cantilevered load. So the capacity to lift is reduced by 50% when the center of mass is 18" further back from the end of the lift arms. So at 18", your lift drops to 1500#. A shredder or brush hog is center of gravity is about 32" from the end of the lift arms so the capacity at that distance is 1200#. Any hog bigger than that won't leave the ground. If your mower center of gravity is more than 11 inches from the end of the arms, you won't lift it. If you don't use the third point, and the mower has rear wheels, then the weight is almost halved and lifting is again possible. I never use the 3rd point with my brush hog.

The last issue is that the front of the tractor may not be heavy enough to handle the load and so you'll lose steering control.

My calculations are based on the lift cylinder being 2.5" in diameter. I think the D-17 cylinder is 3" and I have worked on that one. I assumed that the lift lever that the cylinder connects to inside the rear axel is 4" long. I further assumed the outside lift arms are 18 from center of shaft to lift point. I may not have these numbers exact.
