I just purchased a C that has some features I had not seen on the one I grew up with. This one has a magneto and a pan style seat. The serial number is C82962. Is the pan original or after market and how old is this tractor? Any help will be much appreciated.

I have a 1948 C. It has the magneto, pan seat and narrow front. I see quite a few with the pan seat.

Mike, all model Cs were built with magnetos and bench seat. The switch over to factory battery ignition came after the CA replaced the C. The seat is aftermarket. Monroe is most common but others made them too.

Mike, Yours is a very late C. The last C had 84030. The magneto is very common on C. A distributor would be more rare (perhaps not in 49 but overall). The pan seat is interesting. Could you post a picture in the Galleries Tractor Photos on the left of this page? I suspect someone grabbed some CA parts and mixed the tractor up. I'd sure like to see the seat area.

Pan seat is an aftermarket, probably a dealer add on option. I have a couple with Monroe and Happy Farmer?? seats.

What front end does yours have? I have a 1949 adjustable wide front end C and I was told that the wide front end was limited to only so many of the last 1500 or so C's made. Mine also has a pan seat and I was either told or read somewhere that some of the last C's built had a metal seat like was on the Ca as an option? Don't hold me to that since I don't know how reliable that is since I can't remember my source.

Almost all the C's out here have the wide front.....I have 4 or 5 and they cover all the years. I'd say your source is wrong.
