I am asking for help. A friend of mine just bought a 1955 Allis CA tractor. The serial number is 35243. That is how we think it is a 1955 tractor. We are trying to find how many quarts of oil it takes. How many quarts go in the engine and how many quarts go in the transmission and rear end? What weight oil should be used in the transmission/rear end?
Thanks for your all your help.

Joan

4 quarts of good 10w30 motor oil in the engine. 9 quarts of hytrans or universal hydraulic-transmission fluid in the trans/hydraulic. you have 3 pipe plugs ont he bottom of the trans, differential and pto housing. fil one pipe plug by your left foot. you can get hydraulic- trans fluid at wal mart or farm store.--- the final drives are the pan on the bottom of the drop box, inside the rear wheel rims. they hold 1 quart of 90 wt gear lube. you need to remove the pan to clean and reinstall. fill thru the small pipe plug. (left and right pans).

Ron is right on for the engine. For the transmission, the oil must be non-detergent. Regular motor oil will cause foaming because of the hydraulic pump. I suggest 30 AWG ND (for non detergent) for the transmission. You could use heavier non detergent in the transmission but the hydraulics might not like it.

Engine takes 4 quarts. Transmission and rear end take 8 and 3/4 quarts. Manual calls for straight weight oil in both. They say to use 30 for hot weather, 20 for average and 10 for cold weather. Back when these tractors were new they didn't have 10W30. I think you can use 10W30 or 10W40 all year. If you are in a warmer climate probably 15W40 or 20W50 would be good. Hope this helps.
