I'm looking for a few suggestions on where to start. Thr tractor was tuned up approx. 3mos ago. Have spent about 15 hours mowing time since with the tractor running pretty well. Out mowing the other day and it began to lose power with engine cutting in/out. Tractor finally died and now starts up but will remain running for only a minute or two. Have checked plugs, points but appear in good shape. Some rust in the fuel bowl which was cleaned and replaced. Blew out fuel line, cleaned and replaced breather and air filter but to no avail. Any ideas? Thank you.

First thing to try on AC's is: shut er down and remove & clean sediment bowl. Fire her up & see if she runs properly . Might have to repeat 2 or 3 times. Been there, done that MANY times & often the bowl will be basically clean.

My money is with Denny on fuel flow from the tank being the problem.

You need to isolate whether it's an electrical or fuel flow problem. I'd start it again and then let it die. With the machine in neutral and blocked, I'd grab another spark plug, pull one of the wires and install the plug, then ground the plug to the engine block and crank the starter. If you got a spark, then you know it's a fuel feed problem. Another thing to check real quick after it died would to pull the plug at the bottom of the carb. NO fuel flow indicates a need to move back up the fuel flow route to see where the plug is. Remove the fuel line from the carb next. Etc.

How about the possibility of rust getting stuck above the needle and seat in the carburetor?? May need to disasemble and investigate??

Another possibility is the coil.

I had a similar problem with a WD. There is rust or debree in your tank that settles and clogs your fuel source. I cheated to fix mine. I pulled the selling bowl off and stuck a 1" long, 1/4" diameter tube in it to form sort of a stand pipe. It worked fine after that. The right way would be to do a thorough cleaning of the tank and coat the inside with a gas tank sealer.
