B front main seal

Can a person change a front seal without taking off the radiator,it is leaking bad.Thanks

Jack,

I have a 1950 Mod. B that leaks a little too. Unfortunately, you have to not only take the radiator off, but your have to take off the whole engine front plate. That involves taking off the crankshaft pulley, the governor front cover, the radiator mounting braket, the water pump, etc. I have decided to let mine leak until it gets so bad that it becomes unserviceable. Then I am going to take it to the local dealer and let him fight with it. Meanwile, I will be throwing my change into a milk jug to help pay for it, because if the front seal is bad, the rear seal can't be far behind, and you have to break the tractor to change that one.

A CAPFUL OF MINERAL SPIRITS ADDED TO THE OIL MAKE THE OLD OIL SEALS SWELL AND SOFTEN. MY HYDRAULIC OIL WAS LEAKING IN MY WD-45 AND THIS METHOD STOP IT FROM LEAKING.

Yea- you do have do dissassemble the whole front end of the tractor, but I found that it wasn't that bad. I replaced the old type seal with a new rubberized seal along a 'speedy-sleeve' over the end of the crank- all from my local NAPA. The end of the crank has a spiralled groove cut into it that wears into the seal over time. The speedy-sleeve is just a thin sleeve that is designed to give a new surface on the shaft for a good seal. I have been using it so far this year without any leaks...
