Just got a 51 wd which the gen was not working. I put another one in and it works, but apparently the 3 pos light switch is no good because I am only getting one rate of charge which is about 15 amps at full throttle. Can you still get those light/charge switches or can you go to a voltage regulator or some other setup to control rate of charge? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,Scott

The wire wound resistor controls the low charge rate. It is 3 ohms 25 watts. Check to see if the wire is broken.

163 continental flat head. converted to altenator with electronic distributor. the switch was on the tractor was not running, then the wire that goes to the ammeter had a melt down, after the wires were seperated i could not tind any obovious problems or shorts, any suggestions on probable causes, thanks mike

I dissassembled mine, cleaned it, and put it back together, and it's been working fine for the last 4 years..... ..... ..

We have the original OEM 3 position switch on an exchange program all rebuilt/restored and ready to install. Available with or without the rod and knob. Drop us a line if interested...

I had a Minnie Moe U that had the 3 brush generator. I ended up putting a voltage regulator on it and workrd fine. I did however see somewhere on the internet someone has the switches. If i remember correctly they were pretty expensive. If I remember they were $75 - $90 for the switch. Hope this helps.

easy way is to replace the switch. 6 volt regulator can also be installed. basically all the switch is, is a llight switch plus a big resistor connected to ground. ---the "F" terminal on the generator must be grounded to get a charge. if it is shorted directly to ground you get 15 amps. if it is grounded thru the resistor, you get a "loss" and the generator output is more like 3-4 amps. the light switch puts the resistor in circuit when the lights are off and grounds the F wire directly (no resistor) when the lights are on. you can alos use a toggle switch and turn on for an hour each time you run the tractor so the battery stays charged, but that is the manual way to do it.
