I need help! I'm trying to disassemble the lower axle assembly on my B. The gears and bearing are bad due to water. I have two assemblies from a C which appear to be the same execpt for the hub. Does anyone have a breakdown drawing of this area. The bull gear is splined on the shaft and does not want to move. I have loosened to internal nut. Thanks in advance. Nick.

There is a 1/2" spacer on the B axle shaft that is not present on the C. Some B's were built with the C bolt on hub so it should work, or if the gears are the same size and tooth cound they should interchange.

It sounds like you've got the internal bull gear nut loose. Remove the bolt on the inside (under the cap), saving the shims under the bolthead. Use a brass punch and drive thee axle from the inside to the outside. You have to drive the axle through both the gear and the bearing.

If the gear is bad (acid pitted from water) you can probably count on the bearings being bad too.

Wait until you buy the new axle seal. OUCH!

Thanks for all the information. This tractor maybe should have been parted out BUT I can not see these old tractors die. At this point I've got to much time & money invested. My wife says "at least she knows where I'm at!" Thanks again guys.

you got the big nut off the outside, and loosened the big nut on the inside by the bull gear. on the back end of the alxe shaft, take off the bolt holdining the bearing into place.--- loosen the bull gear nut 4 turns, drive the alxe out that far with a brass punch and 5 pound hammer from the back.-- loosen the internal nut 4 more turns, drive the axle out another bit with the punch, loosed the nut again, etc---

After you remove the pan you will see a nut that is exactualy like the one that holds the hub to the axle. This has to be removed as you press the axle out. The inner small bearing has a press fit and does not just slide out. I made a wrench to remove that nut.
