I have been looking for a utility tractor and loader for some time. I thought I was interested in a Deere only but a dealer has a D17 IV with a 550 Loader for sale at $ 7000.00. He thinks it is just right for me. Can anybody out there give me some advise? It sounds a little high in price to me and I didn't ask him about a 3 point on the back as I have some implements I want to use. I have been reading some messages here and am concerned about the loader (high prssure) etc. I really am not up on AC. Anybody out there!?

Scott

Scott,
I run a tractor repair shop and just sold a tractor just like this 3 months ago for $6500. It was freshly painted, with 3-point, and gave a 30-day warranty. I hope this helps in your negotiating!
Good luck.
PS These are very high quality tractors!

Scott: We have a D17 Series 2 with a 417 loader and I can outload a Deere 2350 with a 245 loader working in cattle manure on concrete. You have a newer outfit with a better loader. It would be a great outfit but the other fellows are right, the price is kind of steep. Start around 4500. It is 30 years old. Good Luck. Tom

Gene is right on the money. The Series IV is a great tractor and should have the correct hydraulics {high volume/low pressure}. Since the loader is already mounted, a thorough demonstration should be a part of the inspection. The price seems high to me, but I haven't seen the tractor and dealers usually leave negotation room. Good Luck.

The D17 series IV is a great machine! A few that I've see for sale during the last year with a loader sold around $6,000 in good shape. I'm pretty certain that the Series IV had low pressure high volume hydraulics. Most had power steering ,a 3pt hitch, oval muffler ,& fender mount lights. I would have some one very knowledgeable check it out for you mechanically. Also it is a good idea to check the serial #. I've seen a few D17's with series IV decals that were really earlier models. Good Luck!
