Mornin AC Men, Im a Deere lover who is quite active over on the John Deere pages but was at our local county fair last night where some AC men had a question regarding the Model B. This guy says the first 96 model B's that were made HAD NO SERIAL NUMBERS, just a blank where it was on later models with serial numbers. Can anyone shed any light on this???

Those first 96 model B's all had a flat head Waukesha engine in them. Easy to tell from the overhead valve AC engines in all the rest of the B's.

He is right, first 96 had brass tags attached to the torque tube. Although they look similar the 96 Bs built in 37 share few parts those built afterwards.

In reading my post I guess I should clarify that he was right in that the serial numbers were not stamped in the transmission housing as with later tractors but wrong in saying they had none as they were stamped into a brass tag that was rivited to the torque tube.
