I have a WD45D that has been eating me up trying to solve a low idle miss. I have had all the injection system rebuilt twice. (Pump and injectors) I even sent my pump to Dave Ferguson in MN. to check over. Everything ok... Yes, the correct fuel hose is used in the inlet to the inj. head. New sleeves, pistons, reground crank, head redone. All pistons are .024 above the block. Timing is right on. It starts up fine then when it gets warmed up a little, it starts to pop and emit white smoke. Under a small load it kicks in and runs perfect. Been working on this for 3 years with many teardowns, nothing has helped. Somebody somewhere has seen this on this 6 cyl. Buda. Please help.

Do you have the right size lines between the pump and the injectors. If the lines were stretched out, would they all be the same length. 1-6. Also is the diameter of the lines correct. Injectors out of a D19 will fit in a 45 head but the lines are not the same size,(This can all affect timing). Is the pump an American bosch,(factory).

The WD45D used a Roosa-Master pump. American Bosch came with the D17D.

No, the opposite it true. A-B was on the 45D and the Roosa on the D17

I attended the factory school for the WD45D, and one statement I remember was that it would sound like it was missing at slow idle because the exhaust came out the front end of the manifold. Exhaust from #6 had farther to travel to the outlet than #1.

We had a used tractor that made a popping sound under load and finally traced it to the air cells in the cylinder head opposite the injectors. The injector has to be aimed straight into the cell for the fuel to atomize properly and timely. We had to replace several defective cells. If your engine serial # is prior to 74234, the part # is 4506506. Later engines used part # 4507355. This info is taken from my book which is over 35 years old.

Thanks for the input on the missing problem. It has the stock Am. Bosch pump on it with the stock injection lines. I had taken all the air cell plugs out but have not removed the inner part. I was not sure about how to remove the inner part and I am sure they had never been removed. Jerry, do you know how to get them out and is there is something particular I should be looking for. They appeared ok, just sooty looking. Are they still available? Thanks..
