D15 Series 2 Rear End Trouble

I am looking at a D15 (1965). It does not appear
to jump out of any gears, and the power director
clutch seems to work also.
The problem is that the 3 point (with a 2 bottom plow)lifts well, but bleeds down fairly quickly
and thus drops down the plow. The rear end does
"sing" some also in all gears. What trouble am I
looking at here? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is the "sing" coming from the rear end or the final drives? Check to make sure the final drives are filled up to the hole with 80/90 wt. gear lube. Just refilled mine on a D17 and it made a big reduction in gear noise. The plugs should be on the inside of the sump pans on the bottom of each final drive. Mike

My uncles have 2 d15's and a d17, I have a d14 and none of the hyd. leak down. There is a line in the rear case that hooks the cylinder to the block on top of the case. That line may be leaking, or the cylinder might have a slow leak. If this is the case you will lose hyd fluid and the rear axle fluid live will come up. It could also be the external line hooking your pump to the block, or it could be the valve itself, which is made into the pump. As far as the rear end noise, it could be a bad bearing, or it could be the gears worn. All of our allis's are noisy, but they work fine.

My late dad owned a new D-14 bought in 1959 and a used D-15 bought in '66. Hydraulics always leaked down. Some said it was a safety feature,not sure,was really not to good of a system. As far as the gears,problems in both tractors,3th gear and PD. We finally got rid of the orange and got something more dependable. Good luck.
