I think the "PU" refers to Power unit, and the "W" at the end refers to the series. The casting number for WC"s and WD"s started with "U" also. I would guess it is a 201 cubic inch engine, since it has a magneto. It probably also has the bolted plate on the magneto side also, right? If so, it might fit in a D17, but performance would be only about half to 2/3 what a D17 would be.

I BELIEVE YOU HAVE A "U" POWER UNIT. THE "U" TRACTOR WAS BUILT FROM 1929 UNTIL 1953. THER ISN'T ANY REGISTRY FOR "U" ENGINE SERIAL #s LIKE THERE IS FOR TRACTORS. A "U" TRACTOR WITH A SIMILAR SERIAL # WOULD HAVE BEEN BUILT IN 1930. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE A CLUE TO THE YEAR OF YOUR ENGINE. LOL BOB

thanks bob for your info.do you know if it would fit in a 1967 d-17 s-iv, they look the same. the u power unit has a mag and the d-17 has a dist, but it looks like they will change out? thanks again.
