Regarding the loose front spindle..... I ordered the thrust washers, but had trouble with the bushings. My measuements indicated that I needed bushings with 1.25 ID X 1.375 OD. According to my supplier, these do not exist as standard. Anybody know where I can get the bushings, or is it necessary to have them made? Thanks again...Stan

AGCO carries them, probably the most reasonably priced Allis part on their shelves.

They are press in. I've heard that they do not have to be reamed if the press in is done carefully with the proper ID tool. I suspect this to be especially true when the spindle is worn.

Up/down adjustment is done by clamping the arm further down on the spindle. I have a set where the arm is welded to the spindle - suspect split machine bushings are called for.

Up/down adjustment cannot be done that way on the B. I thought the same thing at first, but when I got it apart, I found that the tapered lock bolt will only allow it to be installed in one position. Unless, of course, I"m not lookin at it right..... Stan

Stan,

The AC part number for those bushings is 205601 - "spindle bushing". You probably could get them from an AGCO Allis dealer. Stock bronze bushings, 1-1/4 ID X 1-1/2 OD are pretty standard. You could get those from a bearing dealer and machine (or have machined) the OD down to your 1-3/8. That would be less work than having them made special from scratch. I have never replaced the ones on my '42B so I don't know the fit. I would expect they would be like king pin bushings that are press-fit into the housing and then line-reamed to the proper clearance ID for the king pin - or in this case, the spindle. That would usually require an adjustable reamer ($$$) in the right size range - something not generally in a home-shop tool box. Depending on how bad the clearance is with the spindle you might not want to bother replacing them.

Thanks Rod. I didn"t even think of checking with the dealer, since it"s a 1940. I figured they would have used a standard size. I"ll try my luck with a dealer. Thanks again.....Stan
