Hi I am working on my dads 170 gas. As soon as you start the engine the three point goes up even with the lever in the down position. We have had this tractor for a couple of weeks and the problem gradually got worse. If i stand on the lift with the engine off and the lever down it goes down slowly. I took the valve spool? out and didnt see any nicks or scratches. Can anyone help. serial# is 5699 thanks

I'm not familier with a 170, but does it have draft control?
on our D-19 it is called traction booster, and when The lever for it is all the way on (up), the three point arms will raise all the way up. no matter what the raise lower lever is doing. Then you need to turn off the traction booster. This may be just a simple problem, Hope it helps.

If the 3 point goes up when u start the tractor it is in the valve body, their is either a ball or spool stuck open, to let the fluid go 2 the lift.

Your problem is not in the valve for the lift arms. The traction boost linkage is binding or the position coontrol or traction booster levers are not in the forward position. Make sure that the two levers are pushed ahead. If this doesn't solve the problem, then go to the back of the tractor to the short cap on the valve stack and remove the cap. You will find a spring under the cap and most likely the spool will be pushed back. Take a hammer and punch and tap the spool back into the body and reinstall the cap. When you start the tractor the lift arms will not move until you pull the lift arm lever. If you want the traction booster or position control levers to work, you will have to free up the linkage for these levers so that this problem will not reoccur. Good luck.
