What oil is recommended for a 1954 WD-45 gas in the rear end and transmission. I have an IT manual but it is not much help. Thanks.

Just did my WD this weekend. Use the 90 wt EP type oil for the differential/transmission oil. It MUST have the high pressure additives. Usually comes in 2 gallon containers. It is also the same oil to be used in the pans on either side for the final drive. Be sure to pull the two drain plugs underneath and the PTO plug.

Hey!
Where are the ports to fill the final drives located?
Do you have to remove the wheels to fill them?
Thanks
Gary

If you do a search at top of page for "wd45 gear oil" or "wd45 capacities" you'll get several previous messages with in-depth info on what is required. Can't go wrong with 90w though, 17 quarts I think.

i think original was 90 wt gear lube. today some guys use hytrans or universal hydraulic- trans fluid. it is much thinner and lube upper bearing better, but the 90 wt will keep gears more quiet.

Ahh, that explains it. Just put universal fluid in my 45. Noticed that the gears seemed to be louder but didn't put the two together. THANKS!
