I am having a little trouble checking the timing on my 1949 Allis B model. I found the mark on the flywheel with the word fire stamped next to it and brightened it up with chalk. I put my timing light on the #1 plug wire and pointed it through the hole in the bell housing. There was absolutely no sign of the line no matter how much I turned the distributer. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

If the engine is not running and someone else is cranking by hand while you use the timing light, clean up the TDC line and set the timing to it. When running at a higher RPM you will then see the FIRE line with the light.

Did you rev the engine too 400 rpms or greater. It will hit the FIRE mark at the Advance meaning you need too be at 400 rpms or greater. Hook your timing light back up and start her up then rev engine a little more that 1/3 throttle and you will be able to set your timing at the advance stage.
