I would like to know if my C has the HP to effectively pull a 4' or 5' pull mower like a KIng Kutter. King Kutter says the 4' mower needs 25 HP and the 5' a 30 HP tractor. Next question, I have to keep the choke pretty well closed to keep the engine running and if I open it the engine wants to shut down. This is before and after I did a complete tune-up. I used some carb cleaner at the air intake a the carb but that didn't seem to help.

You can handle a 4 ft with no problem,but be sure and install an overrunning clutch on your pto.My B had a smaller pto shaft than your bush hog so I purchased a overrunning clutch with the small input splines and the larger splined output.It works great.

i pull a 6' brushog with my ca. saturday i mowed a heavy stand of red clover with any problem. you could hear the govenor open a bit, but that sounded good. BOB

If your tractor is running up to par, it will handle the 5 foot, with sharp blades if the weeds/grass is not 2 foot high or higher. First gear is to fast to cut (thick) high weeds or grass at full factory HP.

I have a CA and I use it with a five foot Caroni mower, and it works great. Now you said mower, but most of the King Kutters I see are "bush hogs" rather than mowers, so I'm uncertain if you are speaking of a true "bush hog" type cutter or a finishing mower. I'm not sure my CA would effectively pull a five foot bush hog in thick stuff, but as I said, it works great with the mower in ordinary grass. As for needing the choke, it appears it is either starved for fuel, or it has an air leak somewhere so the air fuel ratio is too high on the air and too lean on the fuel. Since you checked the air intake, probably not enough fuel. Did your complete tuneup include rebuilding the carb?

Yes, I mean bush hog rather than a mower. I did not rebuild the carb, I thought there might be an easier fix

Take a can of starter fluid and spray the carb around the gaskets if the engine accelarates you have a leaking gasket. You might be abke to tighten the screws and it might fix your problem.

you need to take the carb apart and clean it be careful with the gaskets. i like to soak it in carb cleaner. get it at the auto parts store. soak it overnight then blow everything with air hose.it should have a zenith on it. you can get gasket kits for them. she is not getting any gas. stevec

I would pull the carb and pull it apart and make sure i cleaned the jets real good. I feel sure you have a small orifice clogged in one of the jets. It is not a difficult job. You might even get by without a kit, but the kits are not terribly expensive, around $30 as I recall. After you have overhauled one of these, you can do the whole job the next time in an hour or so including removing and installing on the tractor, depending on how much cleaning you have to do. Some say to soak them for awhile, but I usually just use lots of carb cleaner and a bristle from a wire brush and sometimes some air, although be careful you don't damage or lose something if you hit it with too much air.
