1941 WC Rear Wheel Oil Leak

I have a 41 WC that leaks oil out of the rear wheels, and all over the rims (the tractor has spoke wheels with rubber tires if it makes any difference). I checked the oil in the final drives and the differential, and I believe it is coming from the final drives, which were low on oil, but the differential was down a bit too. Does anyone have experience with such a problem , and if so, what can be done to fix it? Thanks in advance, Dan

You need to trace the oil to the source- generally a gasket is bad. Not too lekiely the large diameter gasket goes bad- the one with a gazillion bolts holding it in place. More likely to be the cork gasket, inch thick, foot in diameter, that is under a round steel cover around the axle shaft. Need to remove the wheel to get to it and take off a few bolts. New replacement is available, made out of plastic, costs about $35.
