Sometime in the past someone mentioned having flames shoot out the exhaust pipe on their tractor by installing a spark plug in the exhaust. Can someone please give me some information on this procedure. Sounds like it would make a great crowd pleaser.

Mike you can do it by putting a spark plug in your tail pipe (weld in a bung the same size as your spark plug threads, although I have seen guys drill a hole and thread the spark plug straight in.) and wiring in a coil, with the coil wire (That would normally go to the center of the distributer) going directly to the spark plug. Put a switch between your battery and coil. When your ready for sparks, hit the switch. It is an old low-rider trick.

back in the 1940s and 50s, we used a ford model T coil, and you had to pull the choke a little. something thats more fun is a air horn under the set love that hook man.

Saw a deal on Horsepower TV or on Trucks. There is a company that sells a kit to do the flame exhaust. Does not work on vehicles with catalytic converters.
Their Kit had a spark plug placed about six inches from the end of the tail pipe, with a coil and plug wire. It had a control box. You rev the engine up, hit the button and it cuts off the engine ignition, you pump the gas as the rpm"s are winding down and the spark plug ignites the raw fuel being dumped. They also had warnings about changing your oil more frequently due too the raw fuel being exposed through the engine. Pretty slick package, gotta have a carb, won"t work with electronic fuel injection. We used the 1/2 choke method, that lit things up.

my dad used to do that with an old IH grian truck. he'd shut off the engine, pump the gas a few times, then start it up again. it made a loud back fire everytime, not quite the same as a flame, but it was pretty cool
