What is the square plate for on the manifold of a WC tractor. The only thing that i can think of is an air space that gets heated to help warm the fuel. Am I close????

GGS, quite a few WC were sold as all fuel tractors - ie they could be run on distalate as well as gas. Usually when distalate was used, they did not have a muffler through the hood. This plate was not there and a pipe came out the side of the manifold. The pipe had the end pinched together a little to provide some back pressure. It was sort of a dual purpose manifold. Other than this, I don't think it had a purpose.
