I went to look at a 7000 allis that I really liked and hope to buy, but one thing worries me, the 2 small leaks. One leak appears to be coming out of the lower bolt of the hydraulic pump and maybe around the oil pan or somewhere, and am pretty sure it is motor oil. The other is behind the batteries and near the valves for the remotes. What do you all think I should do about these, go on and buy it or are these going to be major problems? Thanks

Hurst, if these two small leaks are the only things about the tractor that you are really concerned about, I would not let this alone stop me from getting it. I would be more concerned about the condition of the motor, (oil pressure, any blow by, any misses in motor), transmission (jumping out of gears), clutch condition, hydraulics, tires, and just overall appearance in general. If all of this is good, you probably will have a good tractor. MWM

The major things (motor, tranny, clutch, etc) are all in great shape besides the leak in the hydraulics. I just wanted to make sure that this was not going to be a major problem soon. I probably will not put more than 100 hours a year on it, if even that. Thanks for your help.

Hurst, like I said, just a couple of minor leaks would not stop me. However, you may want to inspect the tractor leaks a little closer to see if you can pinpoint exactly where they are coming from to know what you may be up against to repair them if they get worse. I myself, would really rather not ever have to split a tractor of this size to do any repairs, if I don't have to, mainly because of not being properly set up with the right shop at this time. Who knows, if they are really minor you may never have to address them at all. A few years back, I bought a Allis model 200, with what I would describe as some major hydraulic and lift problems. The tractor was used to carry a large spray tank on the lift, which stayed on the tractor all the time, and after years, it had worn everything out on the lift. Also some major leaks on the hydraulics and a weak hydraulic pump. But the rest of the tractor, motor, transmission, tires and everything else were really in good condition. And the price was too good to pass on. I also new I had access to a parts tractor that I could get for all of the lift parts I needed(pretty much the entire 3 point system) and hydraulic pump. Most of my leaks turned out to be some bad o-rings. I did have to drop a couple of the drain pans under the tractor, to repair leaks. Anyway, for my time and not much more than a $150 or so in repairs, I now have a really good tractor with no leaks on the hydraulics. I am not a tractor mechanic by no means, but with the help of others, some of these repairs are not as hard as they may seem. MWM

I called him tonight and I told him I will take the tractor. The price was right. He had about 30 people who called/e-mailed and only one of these not including me came and looked at it. I think that for what little time I will use it, it will probably not be a problem and if it becomes a problem I have most of the tools to do major work on the tractor. Thanks for your input. Can't wait to get it on the farm. What would you reccommend for a set of manuals? I was thinking an Allis service manual, but don't know if it covers the basics on maintenance (like capacities and hours between service). Thanks for your help.

Congratulations, as far as manuels, yes I would definately recommend a good service manuel at least. I was lucky enough that an old retired Allis mechanic gave me all of his manuels just recently as I have not even yet had time to look at them. But definately become familiar with all of the fluid checks on this tractor, even if you don't know the capacities, just make sure they are full before you go out. Also check for any water in these compartments or if the oil seems really dirty, you may consider changing. Also I normally would change all the filters when I buy a tractor as well. You may also want to change the antifreeze in the radiator. Also make sure all of your gauges are working, especially oil pressure and water temp. Other than that, give it a good grease job, and put it to work. MWM

If the tractor doesn't have manuals, would you be willing to sell the manuals you have for 7000 late models if you have any? Not sure if you have a tractor of this model, but if not and you have the manuals I might be interested. Thanks for all your help.

I will take a look at them tomorrow. I'm not sure if I have the 7000 manuels or not. No I don't have a 7000 tractor, but I have a couple of 200's. But, I would really hate to get rid of the manuels if I do, because one of these days I may wind up with a 7000, and I will be sorry I don't have the manuels. But, if you just want the imformation from the manuels, I could copy them for you at no cost. That is if I have them. MWM

I understand about wanting to keep the manuals. I will let you know if the owner had the manuals or not. If he didn't I may need copies of the regular maintenance charts for hours and capacities. I will try to get a manual (at least owners manual) ASAP because it will be handy when I start to use the tractor a lot. Thanks for your help with all of this
