I have a 1950 WD. Can anyone tell me what category hitch it has if it has original equipment?

I have a three point hitch for my WD45. The top link fits between the lift arms making it impossible to run p.t.o. driven eguipment like a mower.Good for plows,blades, etc.

I am not sure what you mean but if you are thinking of Category 0,1,2,or 3 it is none of those. The WD could be equiped with the WD45 snap coupler hitch system for easy implement changes. You could get an adapter from AC, and others, to go from snap coupler to 3 point. You can also put a quick hitch on a snap coupler-to-three point adapter and quickly put on 3 point implements or drop the entire unit off and connect to snap coupler implements. The tractor can handle catergory 1 implements nicely and some category 2 implements with caution.

Clearly, my ignorance is showing. I am confusing the lift arms for those used with a three-point. This particular tractor does have the snap-couplers. With those, do you have to use Allis only implements that are designed to attach via the snap coupler? Is it just better and simpler to go with a three-point adaptor?

You'll have to bear with me a bit as I'm a tractor newbie!

Yes You had to use Allis implements with a WD. My prefrence is to stay with Allis Implements designed to fit the WD. However they are not readily available in many areas. Many like a three point on their WD I don't care for it myself.

I should clarify - always more to the story. I came into this WD for practically nothing and hope to get some use out of it. You can tell from my question, though, that I don't know much about using the thing. It's in good shape and runs like a champ. Appears to be all there with everything functioning. I want to use if for mowing and such around the place. I'm fairly mechanical and am not generally intimidated by repairs. I ordered a shop manual first thing (hasn't come in yet!) and want to familiarize myself with my new equipment.

Allis snap coupler equipment is the way to go if you can find some.It works good and it is both quicker and easier to hook and unhook.

It did not have a 3-point hitch at all, from the factory, at least. It most likely did not have a 'Snap-coupler', either which was a proprietary Allis design. Mounted implements attached to a pin underneath the tractor middle (after removing the drawbar); and the lifting was done by the lift arms.

Some of the early WD's were retrofitted with the Snap-coupler bell and claws. But either way, you can get a 3-point hitch kit adapter; could be either Category 1 or 2, I am not sure which.
